Photography started as a casual hobby while in college. In my sophomore winter semester, I enrolled in a digital photography class seeing it as an easy credit and a great way to boost my GPA. Enrolling in this class allowed me access to the media department’s arsenal of professional photography equipment. Shortly thereafter, I ran into an acquaintance (now a dear friend) who invited me to go out and take pictures along a popular trail.
I suppose it all tumbled from there. I realized how powerful a camera could be. My curiosity kindled by my friend and my background in communications eventually led me to work for Colorado State Univerity’s College of Health and Human Science and the Poudre River Library District as a media specialist for their public relations teams, shedding light on their research, community-based programs, and supporting their public relations campaigns. This allowed me to hone my skills as both a writer and a photographer.
Fast forward to present day, I am currently employed at a local a brick-and-mortar camera shop that has a long-standing, positive reputation in the Colorado photography community. It here where I dove deep into the photo industry and local community… meeting tech reps, community members, and seasoned photographers alike. I started to learn, teach others, and become connected to the Colorado photography community as a whole.
The Colorado photography community has enabled me to grow immensely in my skillset and knowledge. I center most of my work around people, mainly capturing locally based events and capturing intimate portraits of others. In a way, its my version of giving back and paying tribute to the community that has allowed me to grow so much.
